CDC – PEPFAR

The US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is the US Government initiative to help save the lives of those suffering from HIV/AIDS around the world. This historic commitment is the largest by any nation to combat a single disease internationally, and PEPFAR investments also help alleviate suffering from other diseases across the global health spectrum. PEPFAR is driven by a shared responsibility among donor and partner nations and others to make smart investments to save lives.

PEPFAR is the cornerstone and largest component of the US President’s Global Health Initiative. GHP has worked in partnership with CDC’s Global Aids Program to support PEPFAR Laboratory Strengthening initiatives. Learn more at www.pepfar.gov.


Kazakhstan Laboratory Reform Project

Within the framework of the Kazakhstan Health Technology Transfer and Institutional Reform Project and in order to achieve one of its overall goals – improve quality and efficiency of medical care through the establishment of functioning systems/ institutions for clinical practice guideline development/dissemination and health facility accreditation, and through improved performance in the laboratory and blood transfusion systems– the Sub-Component B3 “Laboratory service reform” aims to increase the quality of laboratory services up to international standards; and to increase efficiency and effectiveness and establishment of patient-centric laboratory system.

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to help the MOH of the RK in development of quality control mechanisms and state-of-the-art laboratory quality management system model.

Objectives:

  • Laboratory quality assurance system strengthening
  • Help the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan  in setting up National Reference Laboratories to serve as methodological  and educational centers  for subordinate laboratory networks
  • Building Capacity for laboratory staff, managers and decision-makers.

USAID – TB CARE

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) is a government agency that has provided US economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for more than 40 years.

TB CARE II is a five-year project from the USAID designed to provide global leadership and assist national tuberculosis (TB) programs in high burden countries around the world to accelerate the implementation of programs for TB DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment, Short Course), TB/HIV, and Programmatic Management of Drug Resistant TB (PMDT). Led by University Research Co., LLC (URC), the TB CARE II Project team comprises leading organizations involved in building TB service delivery systems worldwide.

GHP has helped 4 LABORATORIES achieve accreditation to international laboratory standards. An ADDITIONAL 5 LABORATORIES are anticipated to achieve accreditation by mid-2013.
