A Message From Our President

Jack Zakowski, PhD, FACB

A Look Back at 2016 and Forward to 2017

As 2016 comes to a close, I want to thank each and every CLSI member and volunteer for all you do to help CLSI achieve its mission to develop clinical and laboratory practices and promote their use worldwide. We cannot achieve our goals without you. Each of you contributes in your own special way to make sure that CLSI achieves its mission, and we are continuously impressed by your efforts.

One of the ways we honor those who have dedicated significant time and effort to develop, implement, and promote our voluntary consensus standards is with CLSI’s Excellence Awards. Each year, individual volunteers and member organizations are nominated by their peers and selected by the CLSI Awards Committee. We celebrate the achievements of the following exceptional awards recipients:

Barbara D. Alexander, MD, MHS
Dennis J. Ernst, MT(ASCP), NCPT(NCCT)
Anne-Marie Martel, MT
Curtis A. Parvin, PhD
Nils B. Person, PhD, FACB
Matthew A. Wikler, MD, MBA, FIDSA
New York Presbyterian Medical Center

To guide us smoothly into the future, the CLSI Board of Directors recently approved the 2017–2020 Strategic Plan. The overarching goals will further lead the organization to drive the development and promotion of laboratory best practices across the globe. As we soon embark on celebrating the 50-year history and success of CLSI, the organization will focus on:

  • Further understanding CLSI’s value for members and customers, and how to best meet their needs
  • Creating standards, products, and services with high relevance and impact for CLSI members and customers worldwide
  • Further promoting the CLSI brand and image as a globally recognized symbol of excellence
  • Offering our leaders, members, and staff rewarding, relevant, and valuable ways to contribute to CLSI’s mission that will further support and sustain the value of the organization

In the spirit of promoting our brand globally, CLSI’s CEO, Glen Fine, and the Global Health Partnerships team recently represented CLSI at ASLM 2016, the African Society for Laboratory Medicine’s annual conference, in Cape Town, South Africa. Every few years, this event allows CLSI to showcase the success of our global health program across the region and to focus on future partnerships that allow CLSI to further our mission through the growth of education and training opportunities.

As we move into 2017 and beyond, we look forward to working with you to honor our outstanding members and volunteers, further our strategic initiatives, and advance our mission.

And don’t forget, when we approach the end of 2017, look for more information about CLSI celebrating 50 years of accomplishments.

We are delighted to have you with us on our journey forward into next year, and wish each and every one of you the happiest of holiday seasons.
