This document provides practical guidance for estimating and expressing measurement uncertainty (MU) in quantitative measurand values produced by medical laboratories, including those near medical decision thresholds in point-of-care testing. It also applies to MU estimation for qualitative methods that include a measurement step. While routine reporting of MU with patient test results is not recommended, laboratories should provide estimates upon request. For an example of MU application, see Annex B.
