On Demand CLSI Webinar: How to Lower the Mislabel Error Rate in Your Laboratory by Implementing CLSI Document AUTO12

Recorded on: April 2, 2014

CLSI document AUTO12, Specimen Labels: Content and Location, Fonts, and Label Orientation, was developed and published in 2011 with the sole purpose of lowering the incidence of mislabeled specimens in laboratories. Both The Joint Commission and the College of American Pathologists are expected to add the standard to their checklists within one to two years. In this webinar, two of the principal authors of the standard will discuss what you need to do to lower your error rates and prepare for future regulatory inspections.

Objectives: At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the rationale for the standard in terms of reducing human errors.
  • List the key elements (identifiers) whose locations, formats, and fonts are specified on a specimen label.
  • Identify the correct orientation of a specimen tube as it is to be labeled.
