On Demand: CLSI/CAP 2018 AST Webinar
ARCHIVED: ASTCAP18WR CLSI/CAP Webinar: Resources for Implementation of Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) in the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory
Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) is a rapid and accurate method for the identification of most bacteria and yeast encountered in clinical laboratories. This session will describe the principles, techniques, benefits, and limitations of MALDI-TOF MS for microorganism identification as described in CLSI document M58. In addition, the session will describe basic troubleshooting and strategies for implementation of this technology into the routine workflow of the clinical microbiology laboratory.
The session will then discuss CAP checklist considerations related to MALDI-TOF MS, including verification, reporting, competency assessment and a discussion on approaches to taxonomy updates in the context of MALDI-TOF MS antibacterial susceptibility testing and reporting will also be discussed.
