M54: Principles and Procedures for Detection and Reporting of Fungi in Clinical Specimens—Microscopic Examination, Antigen Detection, and Culture, 2nd Edition
CLSI requests nominations for volunteers to serve as members and contributors on a document development committee for a document revision.
CLSI document M54 will provide protocols, quality control parameters, and breakpoints for collecting, processing, handling, detecting, and identifying fungi in direct specimen examinations. This revision will include updated fungal taxonomy, along with direct molecular methods for detecting Candida spp. from blood by magnetic resonance, Pneumocystis jirovecii from respiratory specimens by polymerase chain reaction, and the emerging pathogen Candida auris. This guideline will consider individualized quality control plan issues related to fungal media and include a table listing the differential diagnoses of various yeasts on direct examination. These recommendations will apply to laboratories worldwide and provide the impetus for international consensus.
This group is looking for volunteers with:
- Experience in and knowledge about the design and development of fungal culture tests for clinical and industrial applications
- Experience in and knowledge about the validation and verification of fungal culture tests for clinical and industrial applications
- Technical expertise in the culture and/or molecular detection of infectious diseases
- Experience in and knowledge about the interpretation and reporting of fungal culture test results
Additional information on essential job duties and skills and abilities for CLSI committee participants can be viewed here.
