NBS02: Newborn Screening Follow-up, 3rd Edition
CLSI requests nominations for volunteers to serve as members and contributors on a document development committee for a document revision.
CLSI document NBS02 will provide information on new practices, recommendations, and challenges pertaining to follow-up processes in newborn screening (NBS). This document will discuss the education of parents and providers pre- and postanalytically as well as follow-up activities for out-of-range results through diagnosis (including late-onset conditions), unsatisfactory or invalid specimens, and unscreened infants. Follow-up provisions after a diagnosis is made are also included. This guideline will also cover data management and analysis as it pertains to follow-up care, familial testing and effect of screening on families, and emergency preparedness as it pertains to NBS follow-up programs.
This group is looking for volunteers with:
- Expertise in all phases of the NBS process
- Expertise in international NBS programs and processes
- Experience in NBS follow-up activities and documentation of NBS follow-up processes
- Experience in clinical aspects of screened conditions
- Experience in developing and using case management systems

Timeline for this project
Week of September 23-27, 2018: First face-to-face meeting (NOTE: This will be a 2-day meeting scheduled during the September Committees Week in San Antonio, Texas.)
September 2018 to August 2019: Drafting of document (higher-intensity volunteer time period)
January 2020 to March 2020: Voting period for draft document
March 2020 to May 2020: Revision of draft based on comments received during voting
December 2020: Expected publication date
