In 1963, as a result of a discovery by Dr. Robert Guthrie, newborns could finally be screened and receive treatment for a disease before symptoms appeared. Dr. Guthrie and his colleague published a paper outlining their discovery.

The end of the federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) on May 11, 2023 means that medical laboratories and device manufacturers will need to adjust their reporting requirements. During the PHE, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had the authority to require lab tests for COVID-19 be reported to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This reporting requirement is no longer in effect.

Some of the key points from the webinar included the advantages of expanded CLSI involvement, the challenges faced by Abbott before the formation of the CLSI Intelligence Team, and a roadmap to expanding CLSI involvement at your organization.
