Clinical laboratory testing and in vitro diagnostic test systems — Broth micro-dilution reference method for testing the in vitro activity of antimicrobial agents against yeast fungi involved in infectious diseases
This document provides a standardized broth microdilution reference method for testing the antifungal susceptibility of yeasts, including Candida and Cryptococcus neoformans. It describes two MIC determination pathways—visual (CLSI) and spectrophotometric (EUCAST)—to assess drug activity under controlled conditions. Although it does not cover dimorphic fungi or filamentous molds, it serves as a benchmark for validating routine susceptibility testing methods and diagnostic devices. Clinical interpretation of MIC values is beyond its scope, but interpretive breakpoints can be found in CLSI and EUCAST reference tables.
