CLSI Permissions Policy

CLSI reserves all rights to the content within its standards, guidelines, and all other CLSI products and materials. These materials are protected by U.S. and international copyright and intellectual property laws.

Any individual, organization, or business seeking to copy, reproduce, extract, adapt, distribute, present, publish, translate, or otherwise use CLSI content, whether in whole or in part, must obtain prior written permission from CLSI.

To request permission, please complete the permission request form and provide sufficient detail regarding the content you wish to use, the intended audience, and the purpose of the use.

Uses Eligible for Permission Requests

CLSI generally considers permission requests for legitimate noncommercial, educational, academic, scientific, and internal quality improvement purposes, including:

  • Inclusion of excerpts in laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Use in academic publications, theses, dissertations, and scientific journals
  • Educational presentations, lectures, and training materials
  • Conference presentations and posters
  • Noncommercial research activities
  • Internal organizational training and quality programs

Permission decisions are made at CLSI's sole discretion and may be subject to conditions, attribution requirements, or other limitations.

Commercial Use and Licensing

The permission request process is intended for noncommercial and academic uses only.

Organizations seeking to use CLSI content in connection with:

  • Commercial products or services
  • Software applications, databases, decision-support tools, or other technology-enabled solutions
  • Corporate training products
  • Content redistribution platforms
  • Revenue-generating publications, subscriptions, or educational offerings
  • Translations, integrations, or third-party distribution arrangements

must obtain a separate commercial license from CLSI. In no cases is it permitted to use CLSI content in public AI or machine learning models or platforms.

Important Restrictions

Permission is not automatically granted upon submission of a request. No CLSI content may be reproduced, distributed, posted online, incorporated into another product, or otherwise used until written authorization has been received from CLSI. Permission requests may be denied or may require a licensing agreement and applicable fees depending on the nature, scope, and intended use of the content.
