To improve detection and reporting of antimicrobial resistance, the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) has published a revised edition of its annual supplement providing revised breakpoints, new testing recommendations, and reporting changes needed to incorporate into routine practice.
The document, titled Performance Standards for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (M100, 27th ed.), provides updated tables for the CLSI antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) standards Performance Standards for Antimicrobial Disk Susceptibility Tests (M02-Ed12), Methods for Dilution Antimicrobial Susceptibility Tests for Bacteria That Grow Aerobically (M07-Ed10), and Methods for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing of Anaerobic Bacteria (M11-Ed8).

A variety of laboratory techniques can be used to measure the in vitro susceptibility of bacteria to antimicrobial agents. This document, titled Methods for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing of Infrequently Isolated or Fastidious Bacteria Isolated From Animals (VET06-Ed1), describes the standard disk diffusion method, as well as standard broth dilution (macrodilution and microdilution) and agar dilution techniques for infrequently isolated or fastidious bacteria from animals. It includes procedures designed to standardize test performance as well as recommendations for QC and growth conditions for the organisms.

To define the current state of reagents and serological assay technology used to measure total human immunoglobulin E (IgE) and IgE antibodies of defined allergen specificities in human blood, the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) has published a revised report that focuses on IgE assay design and calibration, validation methods, QA of assay reagents, QC strategies, and clinical applications.

The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) has published an updated standard—Evaluation of Precision of Quantitative Measurement Procedures; Approved Guideline—Third Edition (EP05-A3). This document provides guidance for studies intended to establish the within-site precision performance characteristics of quantitative measurement procedures used in clinical laboratories, and also for studies addressing site-to-site variability.

The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) recently published Methods for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing of Anaerobic Bacteria; Approved Standard—Eighth Edition (M11-A8). This standard provides reference methods for the determination of minimal inhibitory concentrations of anaerobic bacteria by agar dilution and broth microdilution.

The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) recently published Methods for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing for Human Mycoplasmas; Approved Guideline (M43-A). This document provides guidelines for the performance and quality control of agar and broth microdilution antimicrobial susceptibility tests on human mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas.
