On April 7th, we commemorate World Health Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO), in 1948. This year’s theme, “My Health, My Right,” emphasizes the fundamental right of every individual to access quality health services, education, and information. It also underscores the importance of safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.

World Health Day: Celebrating 75 Years of Health Advocacy

4/7/2024

On April 7th, we commemorate World Health Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO), in 1948. This year’s theme, “My Health, My Right,” emphasizes the fundamental right of every individual to access quality health services, education, and information. It also underscores the importance of safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.

WHO’s 75th anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable public health achievements over the past seven decades, which have significantly improved quality of life for people worldwide. It’s also a time to reflect on the ongoing health challenges we face today and those that lie ahead.

Part of ensuring that individuals have access to quality health care services is recognizing the need for all health care providers, regardless of economic resources, to access the tools necessary for accurately diagnosing and treating their patients. To fill this need, and as part of our global mission to develop and promote safe and effective clinical and laboratory practices around the globe, CLSI has introduced Country-Based Pricing for countries that meet economic criteria set forth by the World Bank. Country-Based Pricing will enable laboratorians and clinicians around the world, regardless of resources, to access CLSI’s standards, training materials, and membership.

“As part of our mission to promote the use of safe and effective laboratory practices around the world, CLSI is committed to making our standards, guidelines, and tools accessible to all users,” said CLSI CEO Barb Jones. “CLSI’s consensus-based standards uniquely incorporate the deep knowledge and expertise of the world’s leaders in laboratory medicine and are widely considered the gold standard for laboratory practice. We are energized by the potential for Country-Based Pricing to support professionals around the world who contribute daily to global health and safety.”

In total, Country-Based Pricing offers new discounted pricing to more than 136 lower- and middle-income countries.
