CLSI Partners With CDC to Increase Effectiveness of Laboratory Practice Guidelines

The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are entering the fifth year of a cooperative agreement intended to increase effectiveness and adoption of model laboratory practice guidelines. A laboratory practice guideline is a written recommendation for voluntary, standardized approaches for medical laboratory testing.

New and Updated Newborn Screening Laboratory Documents

The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute has published two newborn screening documents: Newborn Screening by Tandem Mass Spectrometry (NBS04-Ed2), and Newborn Blood Spot Screening for Pompe Disease by Lysosomal Acid a-Glucosidase Activity Assays (NBS07-Ed1).

Quality Manual Development Document Publishes

The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute has published the Quality Management Systems document Handbook for Developing a Laboratory Quality Manual (QMS25-Ed1).

Revised Veterinary AST Document

January 1, 2017

A variety of laboratory techniques can be used to measure the in vitro susceptibility of bacteria to antimicrobial agents. This document, titled Methods for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing of Infrequently Isolated or Fastidious Bacteria Isolated From Animals (VET06-Ed1), describes the standard disk diffusion method, as well as standard broth dilution (macrodilution and microdilution) and agar dilution techniques for infrequently isolated or fastidious bacteria from animals. It includes procedures designed to standardize test performance as well as recommendations for QC and growth conditions for the organisms.
